Teaching Material for Academic Purposes
Esther Pujolràs-Noguer and Nuria Mina Riera, both lecturers at University of Lleida (UdL), have produced this teaching material for academic purposes called OCEANS WITHIN YOU: AQUATIC CARTOGRAPHIES OF LITERATURES IN ENGLISH.
The production offers a theoretical and practical presentation of key concepts, literary examples and clues for students and scholars to apply Thalassocentric optics onto their readings and essays.
A precious material! The Project thanks them for this teaching material that will help the academic community for years. Click on the following link: Teaching Material HERE
This is the summary of this intelectual output:
Dr Esther Pujolràs-Noguer (UdL) is PI of the financed research project Aquatic Imaginaries: Re-charting Indoceanic and Atlantic Literary Productions (PID2022-141118NB-I00), which is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and Dr Núria Mina-Riera (UdL) is assistant lecturer at the same institution. In this ntellectual output, Dr Pujolràs-Noguer defines literary cartographies of water and explains the importance of seeing the ocean, thus contesting terracentrism. Dr Pujolràs-Noguer argues that oceanic or thalassentric perspectives allow for hidden colonial stories to be unearthed. Dr Pujolràs-Noguer and Nuria Mina then have a didactic dialogue to offer some examples of literary works in which water reveals embedded (colonial) power relationships, as well as relevant theoretical concepts, such as that of “offshore dissent,” in order to examine such texts. The video ends with some recommendations regarding the knowledge transfer of such thalassentric, decolonial approaches into the university classroom, particularly in the context of English studies.
