What Is Fear?

You can watch this video to contextualise theoretically fear. It sets up the tone for the project and future possible practices of Service-Learning.

This "pill" works as a short introduction to Fear and its affective effects. This video can be used as theoretical background for lecturers at college, lecturers at High School, Counsellors, NGO, Social activists, trade unions and the general public.

The video was created as part of the module "Globalización y Diáspora" (Globalisation and Diaspora), part of the Degree in English Studies at University of Salamanca. It was shot during the first week of the 2020 lockdown (March 2020) that was implemented by the Goverment of Spain to counteract and restrict the outbreak of Covid-19.

Jorge Diego Sánchez (PhD, Universidad de Salamanca, Spain) works at University of Salamanca (Dpt. of English Studies). His academic background centres on Postcolonial Theory, Gender and Cultural Studies in English with a focus on literature, cinema and dance from India and its diaspora. He has published articles and book chapters on Anuradha Roy, Aravind Adiga, Meena Kandasamy, Sarojini Naidu, Jhumpa Lahiri, Rokeya Hosain or Cornelia Sorabji; filmmakers Deepa Mehta or Mira Nair; and TV shows like Kumars on the No. 42. His current research studies the representation of violences and fear in literature and cinema in relation to how resilience and dissent are represented (or misrepresented) in terms of social and literary activism. His more recent publications include a chapter in Ana María Fraile-Marcos's Glocal Narratives of Resilience (Routledge, 2019), the translation into Spanish of a selection of writings by Rokeya Hossain (University of Salamanca, 2018) and he is the co-editor of Revolving around India(s) (Cambridge Scholar Publishers, 2020).
